The Event Planning industry offers a wide variety of jobs and career opportunities. Before you begin a job search, start by looking at the different types of employers in your area. This is a critical step in searching for jobs as it will help you focus your efforts on the type of employer that best suits your future career goals. Here’s a list of a few different kinds of employers that can get you started:
Corporations and Businesses: All sizes of companies, ranging from large corporations to small businesses regularly hire event planners. These can be full time jobs or part-time contract assignments. These jobs are usually focused on managing complete events, from setting objectives to logistics and executing the entire event.
Not-for-Profit Organizations: Not-for-Profit organizations are an ideal opportunity if you are looking to get experience in various aspects of event planning. Though these jobs require you to do similar duties as corporate jobs, there is a lot of flexibility in terms of time and work as most non-profits are short handed and will welcome any help they can get. Not-for-profit job opportunities can be found at Industry Associations, Charitable Organizations, Chambers of Commerce, Community Centers and other similar organizations.
Event Suppliers and Vendors: Companies that sell or supply to events are an excellent opportunity to gain broader event planning experience. Seek out companies that sell merchandise, products and services for event at hotels, restaurants, theaters, sports stadiums, and other public venues.
